LOVE, ROSE is one act, about an hour in length, and features three large singing roles and one small spoken role. The story of LOVE, ROSE, in brief, is as follows: a lonely man falls madly in love with a mystical woman he believes is speaking to him in the letters he collects. His sister challenges his delusion and their conflict calls into question their relationship and the very nature of reality. This simple story has evolved into a piece about many things. It’s about how complicated it can be to care for someone. How love can feel like a dream that no one else understands. How sometimes it is necessary to face reality – and how maybe sometimes, it also is not. It’s about finding your voice, and learning how to speak as yourself, not as the person others expect you to be. But most of all, it’s about love. In many ways, LOVE, ROSE is a love letter to love – to the fantasy, the chaos, and unpredictability, the irrationality, the pain, the frustration, and the beauty of our favorite emotion.
